Note: this work is an “artist proof” of a series that will imply mainstream mediatic images on the topic. It was sold to a collector.
As I tried to empathise with the migrants experience, I realised this essential representation of the migrants’ odyssey, leaving blood, war, lack of future, and heading towards anything better of a sure death (real or spiritual).
Materials: emergency blanket (mylar) silver/gold sides on a 196 cm x 98 cm wooden board, Massimo Sestini’s famous photo of migrants’ rescue boat applied in collage, red blood acrylic paint, an engimatic strip of black wood separating the two boards.
The emergency blanket is not only a symbolic material representing the sea, but is intended to reflect the viewers as weel as the surroundings.
